I sort of figure they'd have BB-8 be the one to get them out of trouble using his money, though didn't piece it together that DJ would be the Space Uber Driver who he was paying to get them off the planet. And I like the little explanation there that BB-8 would've known the ship was destroyed since he was linked to it; in the movie you can assume DJ had been the one behind the getaway plan and thus BB-8 just had to follow his lead but this way the droid has higher agency.
I guess it speaks to the "strength" of the casino plotline that they completely took away any mention of a Master Codebreaker and it ended up not mattering, as the entire point of this B-Plot was that the plot failed, meaning you can come up with any explanation for them to be there as long as they don't succeed. (As a TLJ fan I also don't think the casino plot was the best part of this movie, although it works for the general theme.)
The Finn and Poe plot from here goes that they disguise themselves as First Order officers but then DJ rats them out, having decided there was more profit with the First Order. It does feel like the comic is playing up the fact that DJ is super untrustworthy, so I wonder if they're gonna just play the rest of this as it actually goes in the film or if they'll play some twist on it. Like maybe DJ ultimately had no idea they were going to execute them?
