No. 5379 - Will was the dungeon master
Ok, let me review what happened.
#4116 Mike asks Will to DM their next adventure. #4147 While Will is cycling home that evening, he finds a haunted house. #4158 At that point he is already thinking of how to write the adventure module on short notice. (That explains why he removed his conical hat: he's no longer a magic-user, he's now a GM. I was wondering about that since this is the 80s so cycling kids never wear a safety helmet.) So off-panel, Will gets the idea to use this haunted house as his dungeon location.
The rest of the party, that is, Lucas, Mike, and Dustin decides to search for their friend. #4532 Lucas lists three options for where to search. Will was building the dungeon quickly indeed, because by this time the haunted house has been transformed into a secret government laboratory with creepy lightning over it, and news about it has reached Lucas. The party searches in the forest first, where Eleven joins them.
#4598 Then the party goes to the government lab, which now has a barbed wire fence, video cameras and armed guards. The fence is clearly new, since Will got all the way to the building without having to cross it, while the party had to climb it using bolt cutters, so Will must have built it recently. I assume Will conscripted #4158 the Demogorgon that he just met to serve as an armed guard. I assume Will was also a member of #4193 the school A.V. club, which is how he got the video cameras. #4664 Inside the building, Will built a replica of the Tomb of Horrors. Anyway, Will was clearly working hard overnight to build the dungeon, which explains why he hasn't returned home for two or three days.
What I don't understand is how Eleven figures into all this. #4574 She seems to know a lot about the government lab that she doesn't tell. Specifically she says “They experiment on kids there”. Did Will try to use her as a monster in this dungeon, perhaps turn her into the lich Acererak in person, or experimented with turning him into the lich before he made the production lich Acererak? I don't think that's possible, because #4774 Eleven has psionic powers while Acererak has magic, and the difference matters in 1st edition.
