memnarch: "Exegol? That's a suitably mysterious name I think."
Exo is the greek root for "outside", gol is greek for "captivity, jail", so it's an easy shot to suggest "Exegol" is "outside the captivity/jail".
A plot point in a lot of Star Wars Extended Universe material is that the Star Wars galaxy is 'sealed' with a barrier impenetrable via warp, either due to blackholes or just some mysterious "barrier" (The Galactic Barrier).
In the movie (IIRC - I've never seen the movie but I've heard discussion of Exegol), Exegol is past a part of the Galactic Barrier on the 'western' side. So... Exegol is "outside the barrier".
I slapped a SPOILER tag down just in case this conversation gets deeper into the EU or movie weeds than this...
