It is interesting to think about. If the point of a plot is to ultimately fail, you really do have carte blanche to put in anything you want. A lot of movies (including some Star Wars ones) can be criticized with "That scheme is stupid. How lucky did they have to be for it to work?" But if it doesn't, swing for the stars.
(Although they're still subject to criticism on the non-failing parts. For example "They're only tracking us from the lead ship." Really? Why would they do that and how do you know it?)
