Memnarch's enthusiasm for seeing the fight play out is making me sad. Because I think this might be the worst fight direction in any of the movies.
Full disclosure, I always thought the prequels are more "dance choreography" than "fight choreography". My preference will always be for the raw emotion of the originals. But I can appreciate the detail and why people liked it. And there were moments in the sequels that I feel balanced the two well - tempering Kylo's superior skill with uncontrolled rage.
This fight gets worse the more you look at it. That particular clip is a little better for the "attack one at at a time" trope. But it's full on with pointless twirls between attacks, excessive clumsiness after each swing, targeting where they're already blocking, and deliberate misses.
And then this particularly saber-drop move seems like it should be cool. But there's a camera cut right in the middle, which undermines what could have been smooth. And then when you look twice it's obvious the guard's instructions were "stand still while the protagonist moves around you". So memnarch's disappointed case that he's "surprised by the sword drop and backed off" is in fact overly optimistic.
(This even ignoring plot problems such as "What kind of guard stands far back until after their boss is dead and then acts? My personal fanfic is that they were all close friends with Snoke and would sit around sharing laughs with him over pints of Telosian Ale. Thus this scene is just them wanting revenge for their pal's death.")
