I find myself wondering about Snoke's motivations here. It's just been revealed that they want the Ahch-To map back to hide the evidence of previous map tampering. So why the interest in the Jedi List that Luke "borrowed" from a library?
My guess is that it relates to Mara Jade, Rey's real mother. Luke told us that there was no record of her anywhere. Han and Chewie had been doing the background checks, but it's implied (to me at least) that Luke found no link in the Jedi List either. Of course, if our malevolent record-manipulator got the original texts back, they could then release an edited version that shows whatever connection they want, with no contradicting sources to confuse the issue.
