I'm 100% with you on X-wing. The rules are absolute nonsense from a space physics point of view, but they make a great game and nobody cares they are nonsense. Which is why it baffles me when they mucked with it in the films.
(Although they're not perfect. By the later games people are starting to be a little clever with the rules; capital ships doing short-jumps feels odd, and the vulnerability of Star Destroyers to space bomb armed B-wings and gunboats - especially compared to Nebulon-Bs which don't have the shield generators - is a little jarring. I remember playing an XvT co-op mission where the opening line of cockpit speech was "OK, you take those two SDs over there and I'll take these two over here...")
