Hold on, I think it gets better.

Tattooine is a black market planet. Anakin's town is ruined by gambling and in fear of gangsters who control the rackets. The planet is made of nothing but hives of scum and villainy.

In the local sports gambling event, the Boonta Eve race, everyone is playing dirty. The cheating and race fixing that Qui-Gon has set up for Anakin probably count as commonplace events there. Anakin got a midi-chlorian transfusion to improve his reflexes and driving skills. But I think every pod racer is pumped full of performance-enhancing drugs in this race, it probably doesn't even count as illegal.

But if Qui-Gon's schemes were all that happened, Anakin wouldn't have won. He would have passed out or died from the incredible G-forces.

But the GM put the incredibly powerful Japor snippet into Anakin's inventory specifically so that Anakin doesn't die right after he's introduced to the campaign. Anakin won the race only because of GM fiat to improve the story. The Japor snippet is priceless, it's an artifact that the poor slave Anakin could never have had according to the normal wealth level rules of this game.

From Kylo Ren's perspective, this would count as the worst most unfair way of cheating, something unheard of even in this town. Imagine how angry Kylo Ren must have been when he eventually found out about this!

Since Anakin died before Kylo could put him to justice, he had to find a new outlet for his outrage about the race. So he became obsessed with the Japor snippet. He tracked down Vader's old helmet and smashed it into pieces, hoping to find the Japor snippet. Snoke didn't understand that, but Kylo did and now we do. This explains so much about Kylo's incredible anger in the helmet scene!

In #2583, Kylo Ren finally tracked down the Japor snippet and acquired it from Palpatine. That's why in today's strip he says that he is now satisfied with his vengeance.

I'm pretty sure now that Anakin's voice was only in Palpatine's head, and Kylo Ren did not hear it. Kylo does not know yet that Anakin is still undead and possessing Palpatine. That's why he doesn't take the hint from Han in the vision.
